Kern & Crumb Bakehouse started with a little bit of faith, a lot of flour, and a very real desire to build a life that gave my family more of what we needed.

After years working in the corporate world, I made the decision to step away from my career and take a completely different path. I wanted more flexibility for my family, more time at home, and the ability to be present for the everyday moments that matter.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I fell in love with baking.

What started in my home kitchen grew into Kern & Crumb Bakehouse, a family-owned, Latina-owned, woman-owned cottage bakery here in Hampton, Virginia. Everything is made by me in my home kitchen, in small quantities, with a whole lot of care.

My family is a huge part of this business.

My husband, Justin, is my behind-the-scenes teammate and logistics genius. He helps with dishes, orders, setup, and all the things that make this little operation actually function. My kids are growing up watching me build something from scratch, and I hope they see more than just a bakery. I hope they see that you can take a scary leap, create something of your own, and build a life around the people you love.

Kern & Crumb is also about community.

I don’t want this to just be a place where you pick up a loaf of bread. I want it to feel like that little neighborhood spot where you know the person behind the counter, you recognize the regulars, you grab something delicious for your family, and maybe you stay and chat for a minute.

That’s a big part of why the bake stand matters so much to me. I believe small businesses can be part of the fabric of a neighborhood. A simple place to grab a loaf, a cookie, or a Saturday treat can create connection.

Everything I make is rooted in the same idea that started this journey:

Build something good. Make room for family. Feed people well. And don’t be afraid to start small.
