Hi, I’m Kate! I'm the baker and one-woman show behind Sugarbat Bakehouse in Gastonia, North Carolina.
My love of baking started when I was about five years old, standing on a stool making cookies with my dad, or cakes with my mom. Those moments grew into a lifelong passion. Baking became one of my favorite ways to show love to those around me.
I’d dreamed of owning a bakery since I was a little girl, but never quite believed people would pay for something I baked (no matter how often I was told I should sell it). I spent more than eight years tweaking and perfecting my cookies before finally turning that dream into reality.
The leap came with a fresh start. After moving more than 2,000 miles from California to North Carolina, I found myself building a new life where anything felt possible. With a whole lot of encouragement, I finally opened Sugarbat Bakehouse and created something completely my own.
It’s a little piece of my personality, too: sweet, a little spooky, and full of whimsy. I love combining familiar, comforting flavors with playful ideas, generous mix-ins, and names that make you smile. From brown-butter cookies to slow-fermented sourdough, everything is made from scratch in small batches, with care that starts long before the oven turns on.
Behind every order is me: dreaming up flavors, mixing dough, baking, and packing each treat. My cookies may be magical, but I am a mere mortal woman in a hairnet and Crocs.
What started with baking beside my parents has become a way to share that same love with my community. Every order helps this little dream grow, and I’m so happy you’re here.
Welcome to the Bat Pack. 🦇💜
