Our sourdough is baked fresh without artificial preservatives, so it's best enjoyed within 2–3 days. Thanks to its natural fermentation, sourdough can stay fresh a little longer than many other homemade breads, although the crust and texture will change over time. If you won't finish your loaf within a few days, we recommend freezing it to preserve that fresh-baked goodness!
Our sourdough bagels are best enjoyed within two days of baking. They'll still be delicious toasted after that, but they do tend to lose their freshness faster than a loaf of bread. Not planning to eat them all right away? Slice and pop them in the freezer! They freeze beautifully and can go straight from the freezer to the toaster.
For crusty sourdough: Keep your loaf cut-side down on a cutting board for the first day, or store it in a bread bag at room temperature. For longer storage, use a sealed bag or airtight container, but keep in mind the crust will soften. For loaves purchased sliced, leave it in the bag on the counter for 2-3 days, and then freeze.
For soft breads and bagels: Store in a sealed bag or airtight container at room temperature to help retain moisture.
For freezing: Slice your bread before freezing so you can grab just what you need. Bagels can be sliced in half before freezing, too! Wrap or seal everything well in freezer-safe bags, removing as much air as possible. For the best quality, enjoy within 2–3 months.
And whatever you do, skip the refrigerator! Refrigeration actually speeds up the staling process. If you won't eat it soon, freeze it instead.
Our challah is best enjoyed within 2–3 days when stored in a sealed bag at room temperature. Like all our breads, it's made without artificial preservatives, so freezing is your best option for longer storage.
But here's a little secret: sometimes stale challah is a GOOD thing.
Challah makes incredible French toast, and slightly stale bread is ideal because it soaks up the mixture without falling apart. So if your challah is a few days old, don't toss it. You're just one step closer to some of the best French toast you've ever had!
Challah (pronounced khah-LAH, with a soft, throaty "ch" sound, like you are clearing your throat) is a traditional Jewish egg bread, typically enjoyed on Shabbat and holidays. It's soft, fluffy, slightly sweet, and often braided into a beautiful loaf. Challah has a rich history and a special place in Jewish tradition, symbolizing celebration, community, and togetherness. It's delicious on its own, makes wonderful sandwiches, and, as we may have mentioned, is practically destined to become French toast.
