Frequently Asked Questions
Simple, organic ingredients to me means choosing ingredients as close to their natural state as possible. This includes prioritizing certified organic, locally sourced, and free from additives. It means using organic, and/or grass fed butter, organic unbleached flour, ancient grains, pure organic cane sugar, eggs from local farmers which are the most beautiful in color, and always opting for flavor from fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, citrus zest, real vanilla beans, real chocolate, and spices vs artificial flavorings. PS: it also means LOTS of label reading, as even often what seems simple, can have sneaky ingredients added in.
The Wisconsin Cottage Food Ruling, allows bakers to sell shelf-stable baked goods made in their home, direct to consumers. Shelf stable here is key, and it's why you won't see me offer things that custard, raw cream cheese or other products that require refrigeration (it's for your safety!) Microbakery...just like it sounds - it's small. I'm a one woman bakery! Everything is made in small batches, giving each recipe the time and attention it deserves. No production lines, no shortcuts, no commercial equipment (though a larger oven sure would be nice). Everything is made in limited quantities. Working on a small scale gives me the opportunity to be very thoughtful about the ingredients. It means I can go to the local strawberry patch, to pick berries to use in the upcoming week's scones, or zest lemons by hand for lemon shortbread. It means using traditional methods and baking products that I'm proud to share with you each week. It also means my menu will change often to reflect what's in season.
I'll reach out via the contact info I have on file to check in before closing for the day, though if you miss your pickup, I'm unfortunately not able to offer refunds given the perishable nature of the items.
Ingredients are listed on every item, however - as a home based baker, my home is exposed to common allergens - dairy, eggs, nuts, wheat, etc. I can never guarantee allergen-free, nor recommend a product to anyone with a severe allergy. I don't bake specifically gluten free, though there may be an occasional item that happens to be naturally free of gluten (ex: granola), however - again, given I'm a home baker I can never guarantee completely gluten free. I am happy to recommend you to a few local bakeries though who specialize in gluten & dairy free anytime!
