Customize SMS templates and your SMS name

Edit short text-message bodies, use supported variables, and resolve save errors.

Open Messaging → SMS Templates. SMS availability depends on your store's country and access; the tab may be absent. Enable SMS under SMS and add wallet funds in Billing when you intend to send texts.

Name and message body

  1. Review SMS Sender Name at the top. It identifies your store in the automatic prefix. It must be a shortened version starting from the beginning of your business name, within the displayed character limit; it cannot be an unrelated nickname. Remove a flagged word by shortening the name before it. Select its Save button and wait for confirmation.
  2. Find the message type in the Orders, Quotes/Order Requests, Payments or Subscriptions group. Select its edit icon.
  3. Edit the body, keeping it about that order, quote or payment. Use Insert Variables to insert only fields offered for this message type.
  4. Check the displayed message budget and preview. The sender prefix, substituted values and opt-out text take space too; the limit is not just the number of characters you typed. Keep it short enough for the single-segment transactional message budget.
  5. Select Save Custom Template or Save Changes. A Custom badge identifies saved customization. Use Cancel to discard edits, or the reset icon and confirmation to restore the default.

Why Save is unavailable or rejected

Shorten an over-budget message. The validation checks the expanded message, including potentially long replacement values. Remove content flagged by the editor and replace disallowed external links with an allowed Bakebug or eligible active storefront link. Do not type a different domain to bypass the link validation.

The name prefix and opt-out footer are added when sending; entering them again in the body wastes the available space. An Always on badge relates to an essential notification in a checkout mode that allows customers without email; it does not guarantee every text will arrive.

Templates edit wording. SMS → SMS Notification Types controls notification preferences, and consent, a usable phone number, SMS enablement and funds still govern sending. Campaign text is written in Customers → Blasts → SMS Blasts. Automated back-in-stock and unfinished-checkout alerts currently use email; their SMS templates do not enable automated texts. Payment-due and upcoming subscription SMS reminders have their own settings under Reminders.
